New Beer Tuesday!

Welcome to NBT where I highlight a new (to me) beer and offer my unprofessional review of said beer!

The newest star is 21st Amendment's Back in Black IPA.
I've had a couple of beers from this brewery before (Brew Free or Die IPA, Hell or High Watermelon), but this beer steals the show and is absolutely fantastic.
I love how 21st Amendment brews most of their beer (maybe all?) in cans. This can was especially awesome. You can't really tell from this picture, but on the can, Paul Revere is on a motorcycle. Such a badass.
How did it taste? Amazing. When you pour it, it is almost opaque. So very dark, but it throws off when you drink it. You're expecting something much heavier, but it really has a nice crisp IPA taste. How do they do it??!
There's not really much of a description from the brewery. They do say that it is brewed as an American IPA but they add in dark malts. It is 6.8% alc. and has 65 IBUs.
Beer Advocate gives it a B+.

If you see this beer, definitely try it! So far, I've only seen it at 6 pack shops (House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington shown here), but I would love to see it on tap somewhere. It would be great to drink with a grilled portabella sandwich. Mmmm.

So, I think my new beer picture stash is almost out. I guess I'll have to do some research this weekend...darn!
Have you had Back in Black IPA? (And do you immediately think of Lewis Black when you see this?) What are your thoughts?

  3. Actually, I think of AC/DC, but I blame marching band for that. :-P

I completely agree: Back-in-Black is a great new beer from 21st Amendment. When the Black IPA trend first got started, I avoided it like the plague, just because the whole movement felt way too trendy to be worth getting excited about. On a whim, I tried it at a Beer Meetup and loved it. Lots of complex flavor without just being another over-hopped (and over-hyped) IPA.
